Daktyvak

Apparatus for the visualisation of dactyloscopic prints.

The DAKTYVAK apparatus serves for the visualisation of dactyloscopic prints by means of cyanoacrylate vapour depositing. The apparatus has been developed in a co-operation with the Prague Institute for Criminalistics.
The mobile stand of the apparatus consists of rolled profiles. The upper part of the apparatus consists of a frame with a hinged glazed lid and fittings for the clamping of objects under investigation. Its right-hand side contains a fan and a heated chamber, into which water and cyanoacrylate is poured. The front panel bears the control elements, i.e. the heating switch, temperature regulator and exhaust switch.
The working space is situated within a polyethylene sleeve, fixed to the upper frame and the bottom. The bottom holds an exhaustion aggregate for the removal of cyanoacrylate vapours outside the laboratory after the end of vapour depositing. The distance between the bottom and lid can be continuously changed as needed.

The DAKTYVAK equipment has several merits in comparison with similar equipment manufactured abroad :

• the working space can be changed continuously and objects under investigation as long as approx. 1450 mm long can be placed inside;


• the time required for the development of dactyloscopic prints is markedly reduced by the introduction of forced vapour circulation;


• effective exhaustion of vapours out of the working area;


• easy replacement of the polyethylene sleeve in the case of contamination or damage.

The washer is the new equipment for the Daktyvak device. It consists of body, easily fitted on the Daktyvak, and connected into outlet suction circuit of the Daktyvak. Into the Washer is inserted a special filtration cartridge, containing an absorption material, absorbing remainders of cyanoacrylate vapours, leaving the Daktyvak after operation cycle finishing. Used filtration cartridges are replaced by way of exchange. The manufacturer ensures supply of new filtration cartridges, their collection and a central ecology liquidation of the used filtration cartridges. The Washer equipment has been developed in collaboration with the professional working places of Criminological Institute Prague and with specialised laboratories engaged in problems of chemical matters, used for military purposes. The equipment successfully passed operation tests and by the Hygienic Service acquainted the approval for use in sections of the Defence Ministry of the Czech Republic.
The DAKTYVAK apparatus was presented at the IDET `trade fair. Criminalistic departments of the Czech police will be equipped with the DAKTYVAK equipment.
