Elatest III.

Elatest III is a device for examining the authenticity of documents (Fig. 1) designed for use at border crossings or laboratories.

The device consists of a metal cabinet which houses:

• source of white light consisting of 2 x 8W tubes with 5400°K chromaticity


• source of UV light consisting of 4 x 8W tubes of 366nm wavelength.


• sloped translucent backlit desk. The light source is 2 x 8W tubes with 5400°K chromaticity.


• source of even linear light, attached to an adjustable hinge, light intensity can be controlled by a potentiometer.


• magnifying glass with 5x enlargement mounted on a telescopic and rotating arm

Each light source is switched on/off separately so that documents can be examined either in UV light, white light or on the translucent backlit desk.
The translucent desk has two sliding rulers for fixing the document in the desired position.
The device is fed with 230V/50Hz voltage but when fitted with a special 12-24V dc / 230V /50 Hz adapter it can be built into a mobile unit and used in the field supplied from the onboard power source of the vehicle or an emergency power supply.




Optional accessories available for the device include video spectral retroview (Fig.2) for examining covering foils on documents (e.g. passport photographs). The retroview is mounted by means of a bayonet-type attachment to the cover of the linear light source that becomes the source of light for the retroview. The device with the retroview mounted is shown in Fig. 3.
